I see the ability to instill hope as critical. JFK did that and inspired a whole generation, or two.

Hope is the antidote to the latest diet of fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD), the things that keep us off balance, dependent, and manipulable.

Other things: Who's using us, and who's serving us? Who takes more than they give? Who unifies us as a nation, and who keeps us at odds, as separate interests? Who stresses that we're all in this together?

Which of the political candidates brings harmony, purpose, and authenticity?

Should we be spending too much time on this dialogue, because that might be a distraction? Should we put too much stock in what a candidate can do, anyway, and remember that we should be working to do our best despite the outcome of the election? We will have to go around our government regardless of which one is elected. Transformation isn't going to be instantaneous, after an inauguration.

I didn't hear the speeches themselves, but do you suppose they were busting on the sleek, fat nonprofits? People confuse organizing the community with feeding off the community.

I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear what was said myself. The overreactions to anything Republican over on RealNEO make me wonder where the meds went for a few of the more ardent Democrats like Norm, capital "D", Capital "N". The Democrats were looking all right until they got hysterical. Now, Norm is making the Republicans look normal by being extreme himself. They were looking pretty sorry until the Democrats began to emulate their sad behavior.

You asked me a minute ago what I thought about your post. Here's a bit more--

Good work--made me think a little, refocus on what we do, and how much and how little we can look to others, as in the election--the payoff is in the dialogue among all of us, starting now and going on right through the election without pause, without end--the election is only a small part of things, and not an end-all and be-all as some would have us think--as Obama pointed out, it's not about him--he is one of the facilitators, and he seems to be good at it--could this be the first presidency of the networked nation, the beginning of shared governance, true democracy as has never before been possible?

This is a good comment.

I think I'll go there.
