I was raised in a big city too, and although I never had a swimming pool in my backyard or never had backyard barbecues, I am SO glad I did not live in suburbs. Yes, our apartment was a bit smaller than I wanted, but the opportunity to be close to so many first rate cultural institutions, to deal with the complexity of life in big cities, and to absorb the energy of the city were invaluable. All kids should be given a chance to experience these. Thank you for sharing your story.
