I own demolition company and NEVER will I bid on a house in that area. TOO many fine houses are there. The burned houses are always the last to go. I have torn down many houses that just need some TLC. But from my understanding from downtown is that the ones get demolished that they recieve the money for. If there is one in decent shape that goes on the bid sheet and there is one that is nearly half falling down right next door, if there is no money put out for that property, than it stays. It is a shame, really. But I guess that is how it goes. But voice your concerns, that is what I tell everyone. That is the only way to get things done!!

...and a convention center or "MediMart" will solve this problem how?

The same can be said of the school construction bond issue shortfall.

I've just come from spending two weeks in France, where all the fine old homes are restored, not demolished. It was a wonder to visit castles, homes and shops dating from the 1200's or the 1500's. Too bad Cleveland's well-stuffed burocracy is too overwhelmed to preserve its wonderful past, not to mention its dignity. There is truly no one in the City's offices who cares about the City they're supposed to serve, let alone its constituents. They only care about themselves and what's in it for them-- echoing our state and federal governments--while the rest of the world sits and laughs at us.

Very good point about the trust issue, Gloria. In the last several years, I've seen not ONE thing in connection with the City of Cleveland that would engender trust. Quite the opposite. Way to go, guys! Finally, someone takes a first step to restore a once-fine old house, to add to the worth of our neighborhood, someone who put his money where his mouth was, and his effort----and his house----are smashed flat. Are we ever going to get a critical mass of competent people in city government?

Great song but this is a sad story. No money to tear down what needs to be torn down so let's not be specific and tear down the wrong place. Mistakes happen but this is quite a doozy and aggravating. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, Gloria
